The Lenox Hotel Boston:
A Boutique Hotel in Traditional Style

Where it is: Back Bay

The Lenox Hotel Boston is a small pearl of a boutique hotel in Back Bay (and if you've accidentally spelled it Lennox Hotel Boston, you're among friends). You'll know you've found something special the moment you enter its lobby. Walking into the Lenox's beautiful marble and wood-paneled reception area feels like being welcomed into warm embrace. It's eye candy, beautiful, intimate and inviting.

People who've stayed at the Lenox Hotel in Boston generally crow with satisfaction about their time there. I think this is due to: the super convenient Back Bay location, coupled with the private, clubby feeling the best boutique hotels consistently deliver, plus excellent service and well-appointed, elegant rooms that are thick with amenities.

As a guest at the Lenox Hotel Boston you will be

  • one block from Newbury Street,
  • two blocks to Pruduential Shopping Center,
  • three blocks to Hynes Convention Center,
  • a 15-minute walk to the Boston Common,
  • a 10-minute walk to what many locals believe to be Boston's most charming neighborhood, the South End.

The Copley T station (the T being Boston's subway system) is one block away, as is Copley Plaza, home to Trinity Church, the Boston Public Library, and a thriving farmer's market.

And let's not forget the countless restaurants and retail stores you'll find when you step outside the front door onto busy Boylston Street. Whether you're in Boston to work, sight-see, shop, or eat and drink, you'll have an array of great options to choose from.

And if you happen to be in Boston for the 4th of July, the Lenox's rooftop is one of the most sought after places in town from which to watch the fireworks!

Generally, when visiting someplace I try to avoid lounging around the hotel; you want to get out and do what you're there to do, see what you're there to see. But in the Lenox Hotel Boston MA visitors will discover a home base that is sleek and relaxing enough to be a destination in and of itself.

The chic City Bar is glimmering little jewel box that is a destination for Boston locals as well as Lenox guests. It's perfect for unwinding in at the end of the day with a drink and a good conversation . . . or perhaps just the paper. And the guava martini has put a smile on many a face, including my own!

Solas is the Lenox's small Boston Irish pub – which, take note, is not the same thing as an authentic Irish pub. Solas reflects hundreds of years of Irish tradition in an American city deeply shaped by Irish custom; it offers Boston's spin on Irish food, as well as plenty of beers and ales. Solas is a more laid back and casual venue than City Bar . . . and so are its prices.

And City Table, the Lenox's restaurant, serves up satisfying food made with fresh, organic ingredients. You'll taste the quality of the ingredients in the food and if you've had a long day and don't feel like going out, having City Table awaiting you means not having to settle for anything other than a delicious meal.

Rooms are a local take on Old World drama and richness: bold colors, dark woods, swagged drapery, Colonial-style furnishings. Rooms are kept immaculately clean and nightly turn-down service is provided. Classic rooms (the smallest rooms) have more of a throw-back feel to them than larger ones. Coffee service provided from 6 am downstairs.

I am rabid about excellent skin care, so the L'Occitane toiletries the Lenox supplies for guests is a big hit with me. My skin rarely has it this good! And, as so often is the case in boutique hotels, in-room wi-fi is complimentary.

Being a true boutique hotel, the Lenox is not large enough to accommodate a swimming pool, but there is an on-site 24-hour fitness center.

Small pets are allowed, though as of this writing a $125 deposit is required. If you'd prefer to skip cabs and the subway, the Lenox keeps a small fleet of Lexus hybrid SUVs for complimentary car service for hotel guests.
